Telecommunications network

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

(Redirected from Communications network)

A telecommunications network is a network of telecommunications links arranged so that messages may be passed from one part of the network to another over multiple links.

Telecommunications network links may in turn be built out of hierarchical transmission systems.

Examples of telecommunications networks are:

Teleconference

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In telecommunication, teleconference is the live exchange of information among persons and machines remote from one another but linked by a telecommunications system.

Note: The telecommunications system may support the teleconference by providing audio, video, and data services by one or more means, such as telephone, telegraph, teletype, radio, and television.

Webopedia definition:

Tteleconference
(1) To hold a conference via a telephone or network connection. Computers have given new meaning to the term because they allow groups to do much more than just talk. Once a teleconference is established, the group can share applications and mark up a common whiteboard. There are many teleconferencing applications that work over private networks. One of the first to operate over the Internet is Microsoft's NetMeeting.

ABC Teleconferencing
Established in 1890, ABC Teleconferencing is a leading independent worldwide provider of audio, video, and web-based conferencing products. ABC is the only conferencing company with integrated global audio and video conferencing platforms that provide uniform international services.

Web conferencing

One of the great new applications on the web is the use of web conferencing. By inviting people through a conference call you can arrange for teleconferencing. Saves a million in travel costs and it can be arranged in a day or so. We did it a couple of times and it works very well. Especially those where you include the possibility of showing faces. Real-time is not really working well yet, but at least you can see facial expressions and thus communicate very efficiently.
